{Tutorial} - Painted Tray

I found this cool tray at a consignment sale this past fall. I had every intention of painting it at some point, but it found a home on my bookcase for a good while unpainted.  The gold/blue colors were kind of cool, but long term I knew not the colors I wanted.

On the bookcase - not the long term plan :)
A few weeks ago I was painting several things in the house, so I decided to spray the tray as well.

Ready to be painted
I started by giving it a creamy white base coat.

All white - details work is kind of missing
I then used a bronze paint slightly watered down to give it a glaze coat.  My girls actually helped with the glazing.

After painting the glaze on top, I used a paper towel to wipe off most of the glaze on the surface so that it just remained in the cuts.

After the paper towel wipe down - ready to dry! :)
Finally I let it dry and put in on my catch-all counter to hold our small odds and ends.  It never ceases to amaze me at how much paint will change/fix something!
